Poetry & Motion
Rebellicca is an abstract artist and wordsmith based in the Netherlands. She describes her work as a form of visual poetics, inspired by philosophy and metaphysics. Her digital art features incredible fluid forms, evoking liquid stained glass, with translucent morphing and merging shapes that seem to slowly shift and move as you look at them. Her poetry explores grand philosophical concepts, from the freedom of the soul to the unimagined realms of eternity. Rebellicca also writes poems based on other artists' work. These collaborations create mutual momentum, moving everyone's work forward.
Why do you create?
I'm a dreamer, so I use the (digital) canvas and the page to dream out loud. Both harmony and tension between concepts intrigue me and have their place in my art. My works gravitate around the subject of consciousness, freedom, time and love. I'm particularly interested in the way our minds connect in order to form new realities of infinite possibility.
“Sometimes, I'd turn a conversation or an encounter into poetry in order to capture it...”
Writing and drawing have been my trusted companion since childhood. I noticed early in life that my mind loves words and images equally. However, it did take me a long time to realize I wasn't supposed to choose between them. Instead, I could do both and integrate them in different ways. I currently write and create full time.
What inspires you?
My inspiration for art finds its origins in ideas from mystical or philosophical texts upon which I contemplate until a vision is formed. When it comes to inspiration for writing, I often tap into my own lived experience. Sometimes, I'd turn a conversation or an encounter into poetry in order to capture it in a form that transcends the memory itself.
How Dreamers Love
Another amazing source of inspiration for me has been the work of other artists and the way art connects us in its mysterious ways. I seek to deepen the experience of their visual creations through poetry. This is my unique way of honoring their talent and presence in the community.
Here are a few of them: Archan Nair (@archannair), Morten Lasskogen (@iammoteh), Ronald Ong (@ronnaldong), Chemical Messiah (@thedirtgod) and DarkMarkArt (@darkmarknft).
“I'm fascinated by surrealism and photography, and would love to explore them in the future...”
Most recently, I was asked by Archan and Ronald to write the accompanying poetry for their latest minted artworks. Both of them also honored me by subsequently collecting the poems as 1/1 NFTs. Links to the artists' minted works: Lokah / Set Free
Aside from my love for abstract art, I'm fascinated by surrealism and photography, and would love to explore them in the future, either in my own work or in collaborations.
